Tri-Angle - Ten

Ten
[Poppy’s POV]

“Bzz-bzz-“

I woke up to the sound of my phone vibrating on the floor for the third time in the morning. Instinctively, I tossed myself around in bed to reach for the phone. I moved my hands blindly across the floor with my eyes still closed trying to feel for my phone but to no avail. The buzzing sound continued.

“Where the-“ I grumbled and decided to open one of my eyes and that’s when my fingers came into contact with the phone. I picked it up swiftly, turned off the alarm and proceeded to toss it aside so I can go back to sleep.

Wait, what time is it? I fumbled around for my phone again and glanced at the time on the screen.

12.30pm.

Shit, it’s almost 1. I should get up, I thought. But I continued to roll around in bed for another 15 minutes before finally deciding to wake up for real. After cleaning myself up, I opened my door only to hear sounds of laughter coming from the living room.

I paused in front of my room. Guests? No way. I hate having guests in the house when I just woke up. I’m not in the mood to entertain anyone. I stood there trying to decide whether I should go back into my room or go down and greet the people.

“Damn it!” I cursed under my breath. I moved down the stairs quietly and deliberately as I decided to go down for food. I came to a stop at the end of the stairs and tried peeking in the direction of the living room.

Hm? I swore I heard-

“Poppy.” A voice came behind my back, giving me a huge shock as I stumbled forward and shouted, “Oh my god!” I spun around to find Yunho standing behind me with a plate of pasta in his hands.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you, are you okay?” His brows creased with worry.

“What’s wrong?” My brother came running out of the kitchen in an apron and a cooking mitt in one of his hands.

“Nothing,” I breathed. “I just got shocked when Yunho suddenly called out to me.”

“I’m really sorry,” Yunho said in a soft voice and smiled apologetically.

“Don’t worry about it, I’m fine now. Really,” I assured him. “Why are you here so early?” I asked.

Yunho was about to open his mouth and say something but Jaejoong knocked me in the head.

“Ow- what,” I yelled in pain but Jaejoong cut me off, “EARLY? Look, my princess, just because you just woke up it doesn’t mean it’s still early in the morning. It’s already 1 in the afternoon.” He put his hands on his hips and glared at me.

“Oh, right.” I muttered, rubbing my head.

Jaejoong shook his head slightly and mumbled something unintelligible before continuing to speak, “Anyway, Yunho came over to ask for help with his homework and he also brought us some snacks from Japan. So I offered him lunch.”

“Oh.” I watched as Yunho placed the plate of pasta in his hands on the dining table before us.

“I’ve made yours too. I figured that you will be up soon. We’re having pasta today.” Jaejoong said in a proud voice.

“Niceeeee,” I sang happily as I skipped away and sat down at the dining table. “Thanks oppa!”

Jaejoong heaved a sigh and bowed at me, “I’ll go and bring them out now, your highness.” And he turned to leave while I continued to giggle on my seat.

“I’ll help-“ Yunho started.

“No, no, it’s okay. Just sit down and wait. I’ll be right back.” Jaejoong adjusted the cooking mitt on his hands before going back into the kitchen.

“Yeah, have a seat.” I offered Yunho.

“Thank you.” He replied with a smile and took a seat next to me. There was an awkward silence while we waited for Jaejoong to return with his dishes.

Maybe I should say something, I thought.

“So,” I tried, “Where are the snacks?”

“I’m sorry?” Yunho turned his attention from the plate of pasta to me.

Shit. I didn’t mean to say it like that. I mentally smacked myself in the head.

“Err, Jaejoong said you-“ I said slowly and paused, hoping he’d get what I was trying to ask by now. But Yunho was looking at me with his eyebrows slightly raised. What? He didn’t get it?

“Nothing, never mind” I tried to laugh it off.

“I what?” Yunho asked with a confused expression.

“You- are really hardworking!” I said in a voice louder than usual. I mentally smacked myself in the head again. Me and my social skills, well done. “I mean, you just transferred to our school recently and you’re already worrying about homework and stuffs. Not to mention that you should have learnt the syllabus we’re learning now in your previous school, so it shouldn’t be a problem for you.”

“Oh.” He diverted his attention from me. “It’s just a subject that I’m really bad in. I can’t seem to fully understand the things that are taught. Anyway,” he continued, “The snacks I brought for you guys, I’ll go get it for you.” He got up from his seat and went into the kitchen.

Ah, now you bring that up. “Alright! Thanks a bunch!” I shouted in the kitchen’s direction.
